We wonder why it is that when people refer to the past, they always draw reference to the back, or what is behind one.
One can say it is because one walks forward, and what is past is what is behind, but one does not account for he who walks backwards! He who looks not at the goal, but at the past or present, and walks from there.
One can say it is because one looks forth to what comes next, but can one really see the future with as much clarity as one sees a wall inches away from one's face? Does one really turn one's back on the past, completely immersed in the future?
O, what a chore it is! To have to both regret the past, and worry about the future!
